Sentinel Comics: The Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook
by Eric C.
Publisher: Greater Than Games, LLC
Date Added: 03/10/2021 16:58:40
pixel_trans.gif Sentinel Comics: The Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook Full disclosure: I am a total fan boy for all things Sentinels, from the original card game to the video game on iOS and Steam. That being said, as a professional storyteller and someone who has ADHD and struggles digesting rules of new RPG',. this one has been a total thrill to read. It's easy to absorb and understand. The book itself is playfully written, the information design is clean and its continuity through example play and explination is top notch. The rules themselves are refreshing, innovative and in true true spirit of the original game that brought us the world of Sentinels of the Multiverse. Highly recommended....

The Making of the Art of Children of the Revolution

pixel_trans.gif The Making of the Art of Children of the Revolution # **Just a making of - a Mephisto review** **The Making of the Art of Children of the Revolution.** Even though the term art appears in the title, this volume is not a typical artbook, but focuses on the "making of" aspect. As such, the book is comparatively text-heavy. In addition to the sketches and stages of development to the finished results of some of the illustrations, sorted by illustrator, one finds the email conversations in the exchange between art director and illustrator. In this respect, the book could not really appeal to me. While the sketches' development is interesting, the book focuses more on the intermediate stages than the final results. While it's interesting to get a glimpse into the discussion about the motifs, the collection of emails - in the typical colloquial form (including various typos) - may be authentic, but it couldn't captivate me. I was more convinced by the approach of other artbooks to the ***World of Darkness*** - pers...

W20 Art of Werewolf the Apocalypse
by Björn L.
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
Date Added: 03/04/2021 13:40:05
pixel_trans.gif W20 Art of Werewolf the Apocalypse # **Glimpses of the Werewolf's Apocalypse - a Mephisto review** **The Art of Werewolf the Apocalypse** Part of the product line of anniversary editions to the ***World of Darkness*** are several artbooks. Subtitled *A Visual Guide to Werewolf 20th Anniversary Edition*, this book gives an impression of the world of werewolves. Divided into six chapters, the book introduces key aspects of the Garou world: transformation, their role as defenders of Gaia, the three central powers of Wyrm, Weaver and Wyld, and the Umbra. In this book, the images are the main focus; the texts are only short explanations of the subject and the mentioning of the illustrator. Unlike other artbooks, this one is not about the process of creating the illustrations but primarily about the graphic representation of the Garou's world in selected illustrations. As expected, a wide range of styles can be found here, but what all the images have in common is that they depict the werewolves' struggle aga...

W20 Art of Changing Breeds: A Visual Guide to the Fera
by Björn L.
Publisher: Onyx Path Publishing
Date Added: 03/04/2021 13:38:06
pixel_trans.gif W20 Art of Changing Breeds: A Visual Guide to the Fera # **The art of Fera - a Mephisto review** **The Art of Changing Breeds - A visual Guide to Fera** Several art books have been published for the ***World of Darkness*** roleplaying games' anniversary editions, each with a slightly different focus and approach. For the graphic companion book to Changing Breeds, the subtitle sums up the approach well: *A visual guide to the Fera* (the other shapeshifters beyond werewolves). After the introduction, the book works its way along the various Fera types, and the author, Mike Chaney, provides some insights on the choice of illustrators. In doing so, he also juxtaposes the briefing information the artists received with the results, comments on the artists' selections, provides little anecdotes and offers insights into the approach to the various Fera. Through this and some illustrations from older books, the reader also learns how the presentation has changed over the 20 years leading up to the anniversary edition. At the heart of th...

Tales Of Honor: On Basilisk Station Volume 1
by Damien H.
Publisher: Top Cow
Date Added: 03/01/2021 20:19:39
pixel_trans.gif Tales Of Honor: On Basilisk Station Volume 1 The writer, Matt Hawkins, has a solid record for writing strong female protagonist, but, Harrington might be the most relatable. It’s nice to see a strong female lead deal with confidence (or lack thereof) in her appearance and work. She is a believable woman with real doubts and flaws, but by her actions and narration gives the reader a strong and empowering character to bond with. Tales of Honor is a beautiful comic book. The art by Jun-Geun Yoon, San-II Jeong, and Linda Sejic add so much depth and wonder that you often forget that this is a military-sci-fi-thriller but more of a space opera fantasy. Each page is filled with extreme visual details, creative ships, and mindblowing action....

pixel_trans.gif Tales of Honor #1 Free issues, starting at #0 or #1 are an excellent way to get a taste of the story, characters and the style of the comic book's authors. Tales of Honor completely knocked the ball out of the park for me. I purchased the Tales Of Honor: On Basilisk Station Volume 1 after reading this comic. An awesome little comic, with a well crafted storyline and a nice art style.

pixel_trans.gif The Wizard of O2 I bought this for my kids and they said they loved it. I ended up having a read and enjoyed it too. So I think the story works well for all age groups. The Wizard of Oz references are quite clever and the artwork is excellent too, really adorable. We hope the creators do another one.

pixel_trans.gif Knights of the Golden Sun #2 Knights of the Golden Sun presents a compelling storyline set around 400 B.C. where God has abandoned his throne and left his archangels to endure and watch over humanity. The storyline has a decent amount of drama, action and development in both story and characters with utterly beautiful artwork. Utterly loved it, looking forward to reading #3.

Spook vol. 0

Publisher: Glyph+Sigil Media

pixel_trans.gif Spook vol. 0 Includes two "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" style comics, both well drawn and with interesting panel breaking choices. I don't want to spoil them but I found them very nostalgic of the kind of spooky stories you'd hear as a kid. My favorite part is probably the full page art in the back, detailed set pieces that tell a story in just one picture. I'm looking forward to any follow-ups.

Love Witch

pixel_trans.gif Love Witch "In an age before the rise of human civilizations, empires ruled by aliens and gods dominated the Earth. Prominent among these was Atlantis. This nation had its roots in a solar system far removed from our own, and they colonized the Sol system through a mixture of technology and magic that was the hallmark of their civilization." So what exactly is Neulow Games The Love Witch? Well its all about a hybrid of graphic novel or comic book old school Seventies goodness & Miller's game design according to him ; " The Love Witch contains three exciting tales that mix high fantasy and horror by master comics-scribe Marv Wolfman, with gorgeous art by Ernie Colon, Don Heck, and others. The book also contains an all-new feat and talent-based magic system that can be brought into any d20 System and which is far more flexible than is typical, as it is not tied to any class- or level-based abilities." And its within these abilities & gaming design that Miller...

pixel_trans.gif The Last Barrow Stunning artwork makes this worth the purchase even if no other gaming interest is involved. The burial mound detail lends itself to easy incorporation into any game and the rules conversions make the process of running the encounters very straightforward for many systems. Conceptually, the structure has been useful to me for solving the riddle of cultural interactions involving burial practices of superceded races in Bronze Age Wales with which I was struggling so I am looking forward to unleashing this on the players!...
