Excellent product with many interesting concepts at a nice price point.

The focus on humanity in the setting is strong and a inspired choice for a city itself that lacks the epic sprawl of the larger megalopolises. Personal relationships and stories are at the forefront here, though there are still the normal frictions among predatory kindred in a city.

A focus on Eugene's history in the white supremacist movement makes for innate villains, and the stories and backgrounds of the characters highlight that struggle nicely, as well as focusing on humanity as a core element of the game.

There are several strong story seeds presented, an interesting mystical location full of mystery and potential, and the presence of a significant historical personage that fits the theme of the work beautifully.

Only a minor caveat - the editing could be a tad better, but it's a minor issue.

And as a matter of personal taste, when a character from another game line is introduced I prefer seeing basic stats from within that game as well.

Five out five, one of the better examples in the storyteller's vault of the creativity and inspiration of the fan base.

Emerald City by Night struck a cord with most of our players. The book does focus on the importance of Humanity which a lot of newer books have unfortunately abandoned. The setting reminds us alot of when we were playing 1st edition, where one's struggle with their inner beast was more important that a quest for power.

The descriptions of the area provide an interesting setting in which to run game. The Red Hollow story seed, provides a dark and eerie element, that has losts of potential to explore. The npcs have rich history and a developed well, which help provide potential story threads.

The section on new flaws and merits is well done, and they can be used in any campaign setting. We particularly liked the Brujah merits.

The one area the book is lacking is formating. The background used when combined with the font used with for most of the text, make it a little difficulut to read. The words don't stand out well.

We strongly recommend this book as a welcome addition to any storyteller's library.

PS: Emerald City by Night also references other storyteller vault products particularlly Rose City by Night by Rachel Judd. We found it nice to see a storyteller vault product that helped unite the community content into one unified setting.

Being from Eugene, I was excited to see this book, nice to see some of the old places introduced to a wider audience. The emphasis on humanity instead of a violent sect conflict was nice to read. All of the characters had good hooks to either make the Emerald Valley a starting point or destination in a campaign. Really enjoyed those new merit & flaws. They are not tied to the setting and could easily fit into any location. All of them are more focused on encouraging roleplaying opportunities to help provide hooks and motivations for a character.

Only 4 stars as I agree some editing wold benefit this document. This is a strong showing, with much potential just could use a little tightening in a few places.

There are some fun and interesting dynamics here - if you've ever wanted to play in a Twin Peaks like setting, this is for you.

Some highlights are the discussion about Humanity, and some suggested expanded rules for its effect on gameplay, joining a few other books here on the SV that expand on previous ideas in ways we wouldn't see in a more traditionally published product. Another plus was the Red Hallow, which nails the Lynch-esque tone I mentioned above. I also liked the addition of a Kiasyd that made some sense, something I've struggled with before.

The reason it is 4 stars instead of 5? There are editing and formatting mistakes that detract from reading - it just tripped me up too much not to mention. Also I'm not a fan of one of the Lupine characters, but thats neither here nor there, each to their own.

Worth a read, minor grips aside!

Thanks so much for the kind words! You describe nicely my intention and it warms what passes for my heart to read your words! Am seriously considering hiring a editor in the future, but need a tiny bit more income. I appreciate all feedback. Just should mention here there's exactly one Lupine. Don't want folks to go looking for a pack of werewolves... heh heh
