An awesome product. Updates its systems and rules without changing the flavor of the game. Great job! Thanks.

I had 1st Edition, which was okay but felt a little on the rickety side in terms of game mechanics and design. This is much better.

LIKED: Three new subsystems for d20 are given in this product and they are all a joy.

The telepathy update gives rules for 'pushing' your P-rating in order to achieve better effects or gaining abilities above your normal P-rating, and it works exactly the way that it should. Every time you see Lyta looking constipated or bleeding from the eyes in the series, this system replicates that.

The starship combat system - so much better than the old style (as used in SW RPG too) which is basically the same as personal combat but with bigger numbers. There's a bit of a wargame artificiality to it (in terms of Order per Turn) but it allows for capital ship combat in a much more succinct and logical fashion. And you get the joy of barking "All batteries fire at will!"

The Influence system makes perfect sense in the B5 setting, and is better than existing Reputation or other such subsystems. It gives diplomatic characters a lot more pull but the DCs are still such that the players can avoid risk altogether by calling in strike fleet whenever things get tough.

Minor tweaks and upgrades from 1st Ed. make sense, and the contraction of the base classes to 10 levels is good, plus removes a lot of the dead levels without bonuses. The conflation of several skills works well, giving chsracters a much more skill-based feel (although I sometimes have trouble recalling what the difference between Intrigue and Subterfuge is). A few new classes have been added (Ranger, Trader and Entertainer) and existing classes cleaned up.

DISLIKED: Printing out in B&W, the boxed text in a light font against a hyperspace background does not read well.

Not so much a problem unless you let it become one, but the classes aren't that balanced. The Ranger is likely to be by far the most popular choice, whereas I pity the foo' who decides to join the party of rangers as a White Collar Worker.

QUALITY: Very Good

VALUE: Satisfied
