I don't care for the author or a good deal of what he stands for (at least as he presents himself online), but that doesn't detract one whit from the ingenuity or creativty of this book. After I bought this I stopped looking at other city building guides. It's a truly solid, imaginative product, excellent for unchaining one's imagination.

Fantasy Flight Games perpetrates another blatant cash grab utilizing a beloved franchise. If we are to go by the example of their Star Wars system, the custom dice they heavily advise utilizing for the L5R system will be ludicrously overpirced per set (I couldn't find a set for less than fifteen dollars for Star Wars) and will require a minimum of two sets for a starting character, with more needed as the character advances. I'll be giving the final product a hard pass.

The Mutant Epoch

As a game collector with fascination for the post-apocalyptic genre, I've got a ton of rpgs in my library, from classics like Gamma World and Aftermath to the more obscure titles such as Waste World. I've read and enjoyed them all, but I don't think I've ever encountered or played one as enjoyable as The Mutant Epoch. For me, this truly is the best post-apocalyptic game on the market. The old school approach to the game mechanics appeal to my sensibilities, and the rules are flexible enough to survive any tweaks I need to make for own campaign requirements. And as for the content of this single book, I can only say I'm truly impressed. There's plenty of skills, a vast arsenal of weapons and armor ranging from the primitive and improvised to the highest of tech, and a broad enough array of monsters, robots and hazards to keep any group of players on their toes. With the tools this book provides, you'll easily have enough material to create and run any number of campaigns. Give this game a look. You won't be disappointed.

Kalijor RPG

I've really enjoyed reading this game so far. The writing is clear, the artwork ranges from talented amateur to brilliant professional in most cases, and the game system looks as if it's easy to learn and easy to run at the table. One thing I can say, in light of the previous review of Kalijor on here, is that while the system takes some -inspiration- from Palladium, it's in no way a rip-off of that company's system. Skill resolution, character generation, attribute bonuses and applications, all of these and more are all different, and that's from a cursory examination. World information -does- seem light, but there's no wasted space in the 300+ pages of the PDF, the author having chosen instead to provide the GM with a large array of tools with which to run the game. Hopefully this will be expanded upon in future products. I was somewhat disappointed that the hacking rules didn't seem to offer any advice on whether someone could hack Kalijor itself, but maybe I've missed that part. And I did find the artwork in the equipment section disappointing, particularly where the armored suits were concerned. Edit: with the price having been reduced to a reasonable 15 bucks, I've changed my rating to five stars for this product.
