This is one of my favorite issues of Sunnyville Stories. Not just for the great Queen tribute on the cover, but also for the content of the issue. Sunnyville is usally sort of an idellic world, but every now and again it takes on serious issues. In this story, we see Rusty getting a bad grade on a math test. A simple enough concept, but then his mother finds out and this is where the story takes a serious turn.
We are introduced to the character of Rusty's mother and she is not the ideal cartoon mom, she is a character with depth as well as flaws. I don't want to spoil to much of the plot, but I will highly reccommend this issue to people as sort of a turning point in Sunnyville Stories. Many of the beginning issues set up this world and now we are beginning to see the depth and complexity that makes this one of the great indie comics out there.

Sunnyville Stories #12

In this issue of Sunnyville Stories, Rusty takes on the role of Master Detective. Max west once again brings his "only what is necessary" style to Sunnyville. It is a steamlined art style which suits the work quite well. The story itself is a great farce on the detective genre with Rusty and the gang getting up to thier ususal mischief. In the end it is all sorted out and happiness is restored to the iddelic world of Sunnyville.
This is a great all ages comic which can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Max throws in a lot of references to those familiar with indie comics. He seems to really have a firm grasp on the history of comics and the medium he has chosen to tell his story in. This issue is one of his simpler farce issues and doesn't take on any real serious issues like some of the other ones, so anyone can enjoy this issue. Highly recommended.
