THE ORIGINAL QUESTION

When exposing corruption and crime through journalism fails to stop it, Vic Sage transforms himself into the mysterious Question to make sure justice is served.

The Question is considered as one of Steve Ditko's signature works. The Original Question collects stories he drew and plotted featuring the character. Also included is a new history of the character that incorporates him into NUELOW Games' comic book/RPG universe, d20 Modern feats and talents, and a ROLF! battle scenario so you can bring the Question (or a character like him) into you home games.

THERE ARE QUESTIONS TO BE ASKED... AND ANSWERS TO BE QUESTIONED.

Did Nuelow get the rights to all of the Charlton characters? I was under the impression DC had the legal rights to these. Has this been done under some kind of special arrangement? That's unclear from the "legal" page. It also seems odd to be reproducing these in B&W- I was under the impression that the original appearances were in color.

PUBLISHER
The Question, like a number of comic book characters that originated in the 1930s through the 1960s, has a complicated status when it comes to copyrights.

The material in NUELOW's "The Original Question" is NOT owned by DC Comics. Everything Question related that's appeared in print beyond the stories we collect in this book (post 1968/1969) is owned by DC/Warner. They do own the logo and trademark on the Question, which is why we avoided using any established logos or simply calling the book "The Question."

It's also why the Question/Vic Sage has a different history in this book than what you'd find in any of the "History of the DC Universe"-type write-ups and the comics DC has published, or anything Charlton may have done to fill in the blank slate that was Sage's background. (For example, you will note that Sage was not an orphaned waif in this book. And Hub City? No such place in the NUELOW Games book.)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
