The Black Dwarf - Version B

ADD TO WISHLIST >

MURDER, MYSTERY, AND HIGH TENSION!

After almost losing his fortune to griters and gangsters, retired professional football player "Shorty" Wilson teamed up with four ex-criminals to bring criminals to justice who were evading the law. As the Black Dwarf, he now wages a tireless battle against all manner of crooks.

The Black Dwarf presents six hard-hitting tales of the tough-talking, streetwise Black Dwarf and his gangbusting gang. Co-written and drawn by one of the most unique artists from the Golden Age of Comics, Paul Gattuso, these tales are among those that upset Frederick Wertham and his fellow crusaders for comic book righteousness and eventually led to the creation of the Comics Code Authority.

In addition to the classic comics, The Black Dwarf features an all-new ROLF! battle scenario that pits the Dwarf against his fellow ultra-violent crimefighter Veiled Avenger. It features game statisitcs for both heroes, new and modified traits and combat maneuvers--and some fun optional combat rules by game designer Rob Garrita.

NOTE: VERSIONS A and B OF THIS TITLE HAVE THE SAME CONTENT,
EXCEPT FOR DIFFERENT COVERS AND PIN-UP PAGES.

Is there a package, whereby we might have both covers, other than buying both versions? (A and B) We love the colors on A's cover, but really like the variation of the last issue of the Shadow on cover B.

It hadn't occurred to us that people might want both covers! (I liked the b/w cover, and Hundal liked the color. I had an "executive decision" to put out two versions, because I didn't want to disagree with my editor but I also wanted to be right. :) )

That said... the cover of Version B is included as a "pin-up" in Version A without the Black Dwarf logo.

But since you asked, I will get something up to address this. You might not be the only person who likes both images.

Yuh convinced me to buy Version B - mostly because of the one-day discount on Version B. Sadly, the pin-up of Cover A wasn't in color (and a lovely pulpish garish coloring it is, too!) so I'll get out my crayons and make a mess of it. And then probably spring for Dwarf A also, since I don't think I could possibly get that Fiction House type of coloring with mere Crayolas.

I hope I didn't lead you astray with my comment back to you!

The pin-up in B isn't the cover for A... it's a completely different illo. But we've issuing an art-pack that will contain both covers, both "pin-ups," and other art from Paul Gattuso. It will be offered for free to purchasers of the "Black Dwarf" books. It'lll be out soon, and folks who have purchased either book before then will receive a coupon code that will let them download the art-pack for free. (Assuming they accept email from the Onebookshelf sites.)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
